We use the phospholipid alpha-GPC in Focus for its proven ability to provide choline, an essential nutrient. Choline is needed to build brain cell membranes and to make the key neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
One cup of Focus contains the daily amount of taurine needed for good health. Taurine is needed for a wide range of brain functions. Taurine mimics the action of the neurotransmitter GABA, which plays an important role in cognition; low levels of GABA are associated with depression and anxiety. Supplementing with taurine can help improve focus, memory and retention by increasing levels of GABA and making brain cells more receptive to it.
One cup of black tea contains about 25 mg of L-theanine, an amino acid shown to promote relaxed alertness. We add four times that amount per serving in our Focus Coffee. Research shows that theanine in combination with caffeine helps improve attention and focus. The added theanine in Focus helps you feel alert, focused, and energized.
The supplement alpha-GPC has been extensively studied for treating cognitive impairment. Because alpha-GPC helps increase production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, studies show that it can have a positive effect on memory and cognition.

The positive effects of the theanine found in both green and black tea is one reason tea has been the world’s most popular beverage for centuries. Theanine has been thoroughly studied and shown to be valuable for promoting relaxation and alertness. When theanine is added to coffee, studies show that the effects of increased focus and alertness are amplified.
